I got a new iPod Nano! It's so teeny and awesome! It took me awhile to talk myself into it, because I don't go out much and am usually attached to my computer and Windows Media Player, but it really was a great idea. It's really a Christmas present from my Mom and Joe. But I always mangage to get my Christmas presents early - doesn't that sound Slytherin-y of me? - this time, because I gave my Mom my old iPod.

Anyways, things I love about my iPod: The little screen not only shows the album art I meticulously put into my songs but also the lyrics! My old shuffle didn't even have a screen. And oh, I did love it for what it was worth. But not having a screen was really a bummer. Now, if I'm out and need a certain song to write, I can actually find it. Okay, so that doesn't happen a lot, especially in Winter, but I'll probably get a good 5 or so years out of it like I did with my shuffle. Maybe even longer because I've barely gotten 3 Gigs on it so far. I have way more music, but I need to sort it all first. :/ I'm really OCD about this stuff.

While I was trying out my iPod, I also read two chapters of an awesome Harry Potter fanfiction. It's a story that has inspired a possible fanfic of my own just from listening to an old discussion about it. (I'm reminded of how Mallory talking about The Mediator books lead me to my side of Spun of Silver!) The fanfic was actually removed from sites due to the author becoming published and signing a contract or some such. But I managed to find it it, and I think I made a new LJ friend in the process. YaY!

The fic follows Draco if he had been placed in Ravenclaw instead of Slytherin. Apparently, it's going to be Draco/Harry, eventually... which certainly isn't my cup of tea, but the discussion on SpellCast just kept making me think about it over time. I finally decided to give it a try. So far, it's well written enough to make me think I'll be able to get through it, though I'm not big on slash. If I continue to enjoy the fic, I think I'll look into the author's published work.

I'm looking forward to seeing Deathly Hallows Part 1 a 4th time with my Dad and MaryAnn somtime this week. I haven't seen them in nearly 6 months. :/ I hope they actually show up. *Sighs* I have at least heard from my Dad a few times this week. That's a good sign. He's been taking care of Mike's daughter, Brooklyn. <3 I really, really want to meet her, but that's a long ride for me. Maybe some time next Summer, if it doesn't turn out as horrible as the last two. *Awkward laugh*

So, the stage after destruction is transformation. Jill warned me that, for someone as sensitive as me, transformation is often a similar upset. And indeed, and awkward transformation has begun.

Magnolia (Maggie): October 29, 2007 ~ June 9, 2010.

Also known as: my computer died.

Now, please realize that, for me, my computer is like a part of me. :/ I know that sounds pretty sad, but it is where I keep my thoughts, my things, keep track of my OCDness.... ~_~; But it also my only contact with the rest of the world most of the time.

Luckily, with some arguing and frustrated compromise, my Step Father got my a new computer, and like last time, I lost very little. Only C Drive failed. And I keep all my personal files off of C Drive since I'd think it the most likely to fail. Joe got angry when I demanded he take the new computer back to Staples to have them put in another drive, but I have really good reasons behind it all!

Anyways, I'll just get onto it. I hate Windows 7. Okay, hate might be taking a bit too far. (But only just...) I mean it's a working computer with double the space. That's fantastic! And some of the new features are pretty cool, but most of them are more annoying than helpful.

For instance, why do most of my messengers want to sit around with open tabs? Why can't they sit in the taskbar where they used to? I tried a fix I found for awhile, but then I kept getting a billion runtime errors when I went to check my email. At this rate, I may have to limit myself to one messenger to cut down on the madness. ~_~; It would have to be Window Live for my email connection, though losing AIM's Facebook and Twitter connection would be disappointing. :/

I also think Window Media Player 12 is all messed up. Why is the "Now Playing" not a tab but like... a whole different shell? And why can't I change the colours? Or see my album art in the "Now Playing" shell? Or edit tags (luckily I have a better program for that, but still)?

I guess I'm lucky I was able to fix the bar to show tabs in the traditional way. Now I like the way it looks (besides the always sitting there messengers). Sliding stuff around and pinning things is definitely cool. I love having quick access to my most important Word documents. And once I get everything settled, I'm going to set it up so I have different Wallpapers everyday (an exciting feature I heard about from someone from Giant Bomb). ETA: Snipping Tool and Sticky Notes are also quite cool.

Still, I'm mostly unhappy. I think I'm going to end up like all those Vista complainers a few years ago, because I am so unhappy with this set up. The last transition went much more smoothly. I loved my Vista. :( Why did you have to die, Maggie?

When I talked about Windows 7 with Jill on Thursday, we came to the same conclusion: Windows 7 looks very pretty and approachable, but underneath that, if you actually know what you're doing, it's difficult (if not impossible) to do what you want. Things have been simplified... and not in a good way.

Well, my apologies... I don't like to rant, but sometimes it's called for. I don't mean to offend anyone who likes Windows 7. But so far, the bads are outweighing the goods for me. :/

Courtney: June 9, 2010 ~ Present. ...let's hope we can learn to work together, hm?

I still need to reinstall my Sims 2 and Sims 3. I'm also hoping the tv tuner actually works on this computer, though I've really gotten used to not having it. So, wish me luck?

I really wanted a way to make VHS tapes into DVD. I used to record all sorts of stuff... and now I have like a hundred or so tapes. No, seriously. I've labeled through 45, and I'm only, maybe, half done. But anyways, while I'm not planning on transferring all of those... in fact, probably not most of them, there are some I definitely want to save.

Anyways, my Mommy and StepFather found me a DVD/VHS recorder that let me do just that, and they got it for me for Christmas. YaY! It works great. It looked like it would be really complicated, but for what I wanted to do, it was pretty easy. I made two copies of my baby tapes. Haha. One is for my Daddy for Christmas. As for everything else, I'll have to sort things first.

I also just ordered an awesome little thing that will let me plug three things into my TV and flip between them. Seeing as I now have a DVD player, Wii, and PS3 that all need the same plugs, this will be very useful. The Xbox 360 has a different cable, so it's always plugged it. Switching between the PS3 and the Wii has been very annoying, though. So problem solved, hopefully.

So, yeah... haven't been posting. Sorry. I'm, at least, going to start up posting through old things from my real journal again soon. Hopefully.

Magnolia (my computer) is in critical condition. Stay tuned for more information/my desent into insanity.

PS: This year is terrible.

Genius, my favorite Disney Channel movie is on. In fact, it's one of my favorite movies, period. I watched it like a million times... to the point that I'm scared that the tape I recorded it on ages ago is going to die, so I never watch it anymore. Kind of defeating the purpose.

Since getting this computer, I was really hoping it would be on again sometime so I could record it into a file. But it didn't come on and didn't come on. Finally, it does, but my Media Center hasn't been working with my tv tuner for months. :(

When I saw it was on... I actually started crying. This is so unfair. Why now? *Sighs*

Freedom?

So, I've been cleaning out my computer for AGES. Seriously, a long time. And I had a perfectly good second 300 Gig hard drive that I was being too stubborn to use. But then I had dream telling me to use it. Haha. That's honestly what prompted me to do it.  I was cleaning since March... and doing little else. Honestly. That's why I haven't been attentive to my Friends List. I'm so sorry. I'm normally so quiet anyways, I wonder if anyone actually cared? ~_~;

But now I'm done with cleaning! And free! Too free... I don't know what to focus on.

My Dreaming in Shadow notebook is falling apart so that's kind of my first priority. To rewrite that. And not use a silly Tinkerbell notebook that's going to fall apart. Haha. It's funny but sad, because I promised myself that would be the last time I started DiS over by hand. I guess it's a good thing, though... I did my last rewrite of the prologue before October. Before my strong inspiration wave overtook me. And I discovered it needed some work again. Surprise, surprise. I guess it's best to take care of it now.

That prologue has always driven me crazy... it's so hard to have to constantly write so vaguely. Only use "the girl" and "the girl's mother". Uggh. But that's how it must be. Anyways, I worked really hard editing the first page. I found that I'm cutting a lot of sentences out and blending lots together. I suppose that's what editing is... stupid Valval. I guess I'm just surprised because I thought I was done working on it. But after I did the first page with lines through all kinds of stuff, I sort of lost my vibe and gave up to dooddle on the bottom of the page. Haha. And I never do stuff like that. Only when I really can't focus. Which is rare.

Then, I tried out my Sims for the first time in months and found I was having issues. I figured out the problem, but I'm still frustrated.

Theeeen... I devoured two whole volumes of NANA. I've read up through volume 18 now! ^_^ My mind is buzzing about with a million thoughts about 17 and 18, but I read so much at once that I can't keep myself on one topic in particular yet.

Actually... that's what this post seems like... I don't usually have so many different things in one entry. o.O; I'm really all over the place. My apologies.

Also! My Nana made a NANA video! (^o^)/

Coming Soon:
Zoo Pictures! I went for the first time since I was really little. HeH.

"Thanks for helping us beta test! However, Key Quest is currently offline for maintenance, likely because you crashed our servers from all the load. It's okay. We forgive you. :P

The game will return soon. In the meantime, here are some fun things you can do while you wait:

  • Get a haircut
  • Eat a sandwich (sandwich not provided)
  • Invade Mystery Island
  • Go outside
  • Build a lawyerbot
  • Plant a tree (tree not provided)
  • Take a nap
  • Obey the Meepits (Meepits provided BEHIND YOU! Just kidding.)

Neopets is not responsible for any injures incurred while attempting any of the above tasks.

- The Neopets Team"

I seriously love TNT. They're so awesome. Anyways, I got to play Key Quest for a short time early yesterday morning. It seems like it has the potential to be lots of fun. It's a virtual board game for those who have no idea what I'm talking about. I've heard it compared to Mario Party a lot, but I can't agree... simply because I've never played it. They sound similar, though.

Neopets is a virtual pet site that I've been obsessed with for EIGHT YEARS. Very likely, if I'm not here... I'm there. (Or Giant Bomb, lately.) You should totally join. Well, I mean... if you think you'd like that sort of thing. I'm not nagging anyone. :P Haha.

Now, I best get my hair dry and go back to reading Half-Blood Prince. I've got a discussion today! ^_^ YaY!

Salmon...?

Christen was messaged by a HatBot awhile ago, and she found [profile] themissinghat

But anyways... I was messaged by a Salmon after posting in my LiveJournal just a little bit ago. HeH.

Not particularly interesting, I apologize. I was just so excited, I had to post. If you actually want to get messaged by a SalmonBot you can request it. I'm actually tempted. Wouldn't it be awesome if I met Morgan this way!? (Speaking of unlikely, pfft... ~_~; ) Let me know if you try it. I've heard it can be fun.
